You should always use active voice when possible because it gives your sentences power and clarity. You can tell which voice is being used by looking at how the sentence begins: if it starts with a form of “to” (such as “to write”), then it’s probably an active sentence; if it starts with “being” or “being done,” then it’s probably passive (though there are exceptions). If you’re not sure which voice is right, try rewriting the sentence using both voices and see which sounds better!
