I am writing in regards to the investigation you conducted at my residence on [date] and the subsequent decision to remove my children from my care. I am appealing that decision, as I believe there were serious errors made during the investigation that could have been corrected if you had contacted me prior to making your decision.
I have met all of my child support obligations for the last 7 years, and since the birth of our first child in 2014, I’ve worked hard to provide for them by myself. My income has increased significantly since then, and now I am able to provide a stable home where they can thrive.
My children are well cared for and happy at home with me. They are currently enrolled in school, which they enjoy very much. We are active members of our church community, where they participate in youth groups and Sunday school classes every week. They also have many friends from school whom they see regularly throughout the week as well as on weekends when we go places together as a family (which we do frequently).
I’m sure that you recognize that there are many parents who make bad choices when raising their children—but these particular parents have been able to show that they are capable of providing an
Dear CPS:
I am writing to appeal the decision you made to remove my child from my custody, and I ask that you reconsider your decision.
My name is [name], and I am the mother of [child’s name].
My son is in third grade, and he loves math and reading. He has made steady progress since starting school and is currently at an appropriate level for his age group. His teachers report that he has good attendance and works well in class, but they are concerned about his social skills. They think he could benefit from a more structured environment than what I can provide.
I would like to explain why I believe CPS’s concerns about my son’s social skills are unfounded, so that we can find a solution together that will be best for him long term.
Dear CPS,
I am writing to appeal the removal of my children. I am a loving and dedicated parent who has been in the same home for 10 years. My children have never had any behavioral problems and are well-adjusted to their school environment. I am a hardworking employee who makes sure to give my children the attention they need and deserve.
The reason for my removal is that CPS says I do not provide a safe home because of what they consider “mild spanking.” This is not true! When my daughter misbehaved, I would put her in time-out or on restriction, but never hit her or cause her any physical injury. There were no marks or bruises on either child when they were removed from my care.
I am asking that you please reconsider your decision to remove my children from our home. My family is happy here; if it’s not broken, don’t fix it!
Sincerely,
Dear CPS,
I am writing this letter to formally request that you grant me custody of my daughter. I understand that there are many factors that go into the decision making process, and I want to make sure you have all the information you need before making a decision.
My daughter has been living with me and my husband since she was born. My husband and I are both committed to raising her right, and we believe that we are capable of providing her with the same level of love and care she would receive in a two-parent household. We have always prioritized our daughter’s needs above everything else in our lives, and we will continue to do so if granted custody.
I know how important it is for children to have a loving parent who can provide for them emotionally as well as financially. I am confident that if granted custody, I could provide for my daughter in every way possible—both financially and emotionally—so she never feels like she is lacking anything or missing out on anything because her parents are not together anymore.
I know this is an emotional time for us all involved: me, my husband, my daughter’s father, and most importantly her little sister who misses seeing her big sister every day (she
Dear CPS,
I am writing to you today in regards to my child’s case. I have been a mother for [x] years now, and I have always done my best to provide for them in every way possible. My son is a great kid who loves sports and playing with his friends, but he has a problem with anger management. He has been kicked out of school multiple times because of this issue. I have tried everything to help him learn how to control his temper and feel happy again, but nothing seems to be working.
I was wondering if you could help me find someone who could work with my son so that he could learn how to control his anger before he gets kicked out again? If there isn’t anyone available in our area, maybe you could recommend another agency that might be able to help us out? Thank you so much!
How to write an appeal letter to cps
Dear CPS,
I’m writing this letter to appeal a decision that you made about my child. I believe the decision you made was unfair and incorrect, and I want to make sure that you understand why.
First, I would like to say that I am deeply concerned about the safety of my child. The reason for this is because my child has been diagnosed with [condition]. This condition affects his ability to control his emotions and behavior at times, but he is able to manage it well most of the time. He has been very successful in school in spite of this condition, which makes me believe that he can continue to be successful in school if given the right support from teachers and administrators at his school.
The reason for my concern is that when he gets frustrated or angry, he often uses inappropriate language or swears. It would be helpful if you could provide some guidance on how your staff should respond when they hear him swear or use inappropriate language so they can help him learn appropriate ways to express himself instead of punishing him by removing him from class or sending him home.
I would also like to bring up another concern: [specify here]. My son’s attendance record shows that he has been absent from school more often than not over
Dear CPS,
I am writing to appeal the decision made by your agency regarding [name of child]. I understand that you are required by law to make decisions based on the best interests of my child, but I believe that in this case, your decision was not in their best interests.
[child’s name]’s case worker has not visited our home for a full year, and although we have made multiple attempts to contact them about scheduling an appointment, they have yet to respond. The last time [case worker] came over was August 1st of last year, and I’m sure you’ll agree that it is unacceptable for a case worker to ignore a family for such length of time. As such, I would like to request another caseworker be assigned to our case.
Furthermore, as mentioned above—and as you can see from my attached report card—[child’s name] is doing very well at school and has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his entire educational career thus far. He also attends church regularly with us and participates in community service projects every Sunday afternoon at our local soup kitchen or homeless shelter; these activities show him great compassion and empathy toward others who may be less fortunate than he is, which are
Dear CPS,
I am writing to you because I am concerned about [name] and would like to appeal his case. I have been a foster parent for many years, and I am proud to say that my home is a loving and supportive environment for children. I have cared for children with special needs, including [special need].
It is my belief that [name’s] parent has not made the best decisions for him recently. I am concerned that he is not receiving adequate care at home, and would like to see him placed in my care instead.
I know that CPS has many families who are vying for placement of this child, but I believe my family would be able to provide the best environment for him right now. Please consider this appeal carefully and contact me with any questions you may have about my request for placement.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this matter!
Dear CPS,
I am writing this letter to appeal the decision made by your office last month. I am a caring and responsible parent who loves my children deeply. My [son/daughter] is a wonderful child with many friends who are eager to provide testimony on her behalf. I have provided you with ample evidence that she is not in need of further supervision at this time.
As you know, [son/daughter]’s case began when she was accused of bullying another student at school. She was suspended for two days as a result of her involvement in this incident, but I believe that she should not have been suspended at all, as there is no evidence that she did anything wrong.
I understand that discipline is an important part of raising a child, but it must be administered fairly and consistently in order to be effective. In this case, however, the punishment does not fit the crime: [son/daughter] has never been involved in any sort of bullying behavior before now and does not deserve such harsh treatment for being present during an altercation between other students.
Please reconsider your decision and allow me to resume caring for my daughter without further interference from CPS.”
Dear CPS,
I’m writing to appeal the removal of my children from my home. I understand that you feel the current situation is unsafe for them, and I want to assure you that it will not continue.
I have been accused of neglecting my children by allowing them to play in the backyard unsupervised. However, this is a misunderstanding: my children are old enough to go outside on their own, but they always come back when called. They know not to leave the yard without an adult present.
During our last phone call, you mentioned that there were allegations of abuse against me as well—that I had hit one of my children on the arm with a spoon. This is untrue; I did not hit any of my children, nor did I ever intend to do so. Any marks on their arms were likely caused by splinters or other injuries while playing in the yard or house.
If it is determined that there has been any neglect or abuse in this case, please know that it was unintentional on my part and will not happen again because it was never intentional in the first place!
I would like for CPS to allow me another chance at being an active participant in raising these wonderful kids who remind me every day how much joy life can
