I am writing to appeal my admissions decision. The first time I applied to your school, I was rejected for the following reasons:
-I didn’t have enough extracurricular activities. Now, I’ve made a commitment to volunteer at [NPO] every week, and I’m also becoming more active in the community by joining [local organization].
-I didn’t do well on the SATs or ACTs. Now, I’ve taken and retaken these exams and improved my scores significantly.
-My grades weren’t high enough. Now, they’re better than ever because of my increased involvement in school activities and volunteer work outside of class hours.
Because of these changes in my life, I feel like I would be an excellent fit for your school now! Please reconsider my application so that we can continue this conversation!
I am writing to you because I would like to appeal my admission decision. I know that it is not unusual for students to appeal their admissions decisions, but I believe that you will find my reasons compelling.
My first reason for wanting to appeal my admission decision is that I believe it was made on insufficient evidence. This is because while I have been accepted at other schools, they are all much more expensive than [school name]. Additionally, the tuition at [school name] is much lower than most other institutions of its caliber. Because of this, it seems clear to me that my application was not fully reviewed by your staff before they decided to reject me.
My second reason for appealing my admission decision is that the information provided by your staff led them to make a mistake. For example, when reviewing my application, one member of your staff noted that I had taken too many classes during one semester and recommended against admitting me on those grounds. However, when looking at the semester in question, there were only five courses total—three of which were required courses from my major (which was noted on the application). Additionally, all of these courses were taken online so there would be no
Dear [name of college],
I am writing to appeal the decision of your admissions office regarding my application to [program]. I understand that my GPA and test scores were below the average for applicants, but I believe that my extracurriculars and essay demonstrated my passion for this field and my commitment to doing what it takes to succeed.
My passion for [field] began when I was [age] years old, when I first learned about [topic]. Since then, I have been involved in many activities related to the field. For example, when I was in high school I started a blog about [topic], which has become a popular resource for students interested in learning more about the industry. Additionally, as part of my senior project at [high school name], I developed an app based on technology used in the field that allowed users to calculate cost savings from using less energy. The app has been downloaded over 1,000 times since its launch last month!
In addition to these achievements, during high school I also took AP classes during two different semesters and scored high enough on both tests to earn college credit. My grades throughout high school were strong, with an average GPA above 3.5
Dear [college name],
I am writing in hopes that you will reconsider my application for admission to your college. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I would love the opportunity to join your community.
I’ve been accepted at other colleges and feel like this is the best fit for me so far, but if you allow me to enroll in your program, I promise you won’t regret it!
My name is [name], and I am applying to your college. I have been accepted to many other colleges, but none of them feels like the right fit for me. I feel as though I could really thrive at [college name] because of the unique opportunities offered by your program.
I am particularly interested in [program name], because it aligns with my interests and goals. I know that my proficiency with technology will make me an asset for your team, and my passion for [topic] will help me contribute to the community in a meaningful way.
I would love to learn more about how you think I could contribute to your team and how you can help me achieve my dreams at [college name].
Thank you so much for your consideration!
How to write an appeal letter to a college
I am writing to you to request an appeal for my application to [college name]. My academic record is as follows:
– High school GPA of 3.7, with a 4 on the AP exam in Chemistry and Biology
– SAT score of 1630
– Standardized test score of 590 on the International English Language Test (IELTS)
– I have participated in numerous extracurricular activities, including a leadership role in my high school’s literary magazine, and I have extensive experience working in the community, including tutoring and volunteering at local soup kitchens.
In addition to this academic achievement, I believe that my personal qualities are suited well to the [college name] experience. As both a student and an individual, I am dedicated to self-improvement. While attending high school, I worked hard to improve my grades; while working in the community, I learned how important it is to help others succeed; while volunteering at a soup kitchen, I learned how important it is to give back when you can. These experiences have taught me that there is always room for growth and improvement—and I would love for [college name] to be a place where that happens!
I am very excited about this opportunity because it
Dear [name of college],
I am writing to you today to appeal the decision to deny my application for admission. I was very interested in attending your school, and I feel that my skills and experience make me a good fit for your program.
I graduated from [high school] with an excellent GPA and have been accepted into several other universities. However, I believe that your school is the best place for me to grow as a student and person.
I would love the opportunity to be able to attend your institution next semester, and I hope that you will consider my request.
Dear [College Name],
I’m writing to you today to appeal my rejection from your college. I was disappointed to learn that I had not been accepted into your program, but I’m hoping there’s a way we can work together to find a solution that works for both of us.
I’ve always wanted to study medicine and see if I could make it my career. But as a high school student, I’ve learned that there are many different paths one can take in life—and those paths don’t always lead us where we expect or plan.
My path has led me here, and now I am asking you for another chance. Please consider re-evaluating my application and allowing me the opportunity to come back and try again next year.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Dear [insert name of person you’re writing to],
I am writing to you today because I am hoping to appeal my college admission decision. I was initially denied admission to [college name]. While I understand that this decision was made based on the information available at the time, I would like to explain why I think it is important for me to attend your school.
I am an excellent student and have been working hard throughout high school to earn a perfect GPA of 4.0. My extracurricular activities include playing varsity basketball and serving as captain of my school’s debate team. This year, I won gold in the state track meet and also placed third in the state science fair. Additionally, I have been accepted into several prestigious summer programs including [summer program] and [summer program].
I know from talking with other students at [school name] that there are many opportunities for students who want them. These include clubs and organizations like [club/organization], which is one of the largest clubs on campus with over 300 members! The faculty at this school are also committed to helping students succeed academically—in fact, they have provided me with outstanding tutoring since freshman year when
Dear [College Name],
I am writing to you today to apply for admission to your school. I have been a student at [previous school] since [year of attendance]. I am majoring in [major], and I have taken classes such as [classes].
I was very happy with my experience at [previous school]. The professors were always available to answer questions, and they were knowledgeable about the subject matter. The material was challenging enough that it made me want to learn more, but not too hard that it was impossible to understand.
I believe that attending college is an important step in my future career path, and I would like to get started as soon as possible. My goal is to become an engineer, and attending your school will allow me to continue learning about engineering and gain hands-on experience with tools used by engineers every day.
I hope you will consider admitting me into your program! Thank you for considering this application.
